Based in Denver Colorado, Independent Energy Partners, Inc. (IEP) is pursuing the development of vast unconventional hydrocarbon resources, including certain oil shale resources already under its control, by applying patented breakthrough in-situ production technology.
IEP owns the exclusive rights to a broad, patented Geothermic Fuel Cell(GFC) technology, (US Patent Nos. 6,684,948 B1-Apparatus and Method For Heating Subterranean Formations Using Fuel Cells and 7,182,132 B2-Linearly Scalable Geothermic Fuel Cells and Canadian patent No. 2,484,887), that can dramatically lower the cost of oil and natural gas recovery from oil shale, coal and a variety of other unconventional hydrocarbon resources, including shut-in oil fields, tar sands and heavy oil deposits, while producing electricity as a by product.
IEP is accumulating mineral interests in the enormous oil shale reserves within the Green River Formation of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, on which IEP plans to deploy its proprietary GFC technology to produce oil, other hydrocarbon products and electricity for sale into North American energy markets. Initial mineral rights acquired include property in Rio Blanco County, Colorado on some of the richest Mahogany Zone oil shale property in the world, holding an estimated 1.374 to 1.63 billion barrels of oil.
The environmental benefits of IEPs GFC method are compelling when compared to other retorting, strip mining, energy and water consuming techniques that have been attempted for unconventional oil recovery. By producing oil and other hydrocarbons from a resource in-situ, without significant air emissions or water usage, while simultaneously producing green electricity, IEPs GFC technology is expected to be well received by those who seek to balance the growing demand for energy with environmentally friendly processes.
